Elon Musk, the renowned entrepreneur and owner of X, took to his social media platform on Friday to counter Hollywood actor Robert De Niro's recent comparison of former President Donald Trump to notorious dictators Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini.

Musk's response was triggered by a clip from MSNBC's "11th Hour with Stephanie Ruhle," where De Niro made the controversial statements.

In the televised segment, De Niro expressed his strong disapproval of Trump, stating that the former president "can’t be anywhere near the office of the presidency," and labeling him as "sick" and "narcissistic." He further added, "There’s not one redeeming thing in him I can see ever. Ever."

De Niro also addressed potential voters for the 2024 presidential election, expressing his bewilderment at their support for Trump. He stated, "I don’t understand it. I don’t, I don’t think they understand how dangerous it will be if he ever, God forbid, becomes president. I don’t think they really understand."

The actor, known for his roles in films like "Heat," continued his critique by likening Trump to some of the most despised figures in history. "And historically, from what I’ve seen, even in Nazi Germany, they had it with Hitler. They don’t take him seriously. ‘He looks like a clown. Acts like a clown.’ Mussolini. Same thing. These guys, I don’t know why, they look like clowns," he said.

De Niro then pondered the potential consequences of Trump's return to the White House, stating, "But it would be chaos beyond our imagination."

Upon viewing the clip, Musk felt compelled to respond. He retorted, "Well, Trump was actually already president for 4 years and his policies bore no resemblance to those of Hitler, so this makes no sense." Musk further highlighted the Abraham Accords, a peace initiative in the Middle East pursued by Trump, as an example of a policy that Hitler would not have endorsed.

De Niro's public persona in recent years has been characterized by his anti-Trump rhetoric. At the Cannes Film Festival last year, the actor, who starred as the antagonist in Martin Scorsese’s 2023 crime drama "Killer of The Flower Moon," drew parallels between Trump and his character, stating that both exhibited a "feeling of entitlement" that fueled their malevolent actions.

De Niro's most notable anti-Trump outburst occurred during the 2018 Tony Awards, where he proclaimed to the audience, "I’m gonna say one thing: F--- Trump! It’s no longer down with Trump, it’s f--- Trump!" This statement, like his recent comments, has sparked a wave of reactions, with Musk's rebuttal being the latest.
