Mark Meadows predicted that we have yet to see the last of former President Donald Trump’s name on the ballot.

The former White House chief of staff told the One America News Network that he was with Trump over the weekend at the North Carolina state GOP convention where the 45th president delivered a speech "as if he was out on the campaign trail again," which among other things, critiqued President Joe Biden's first months in office.

While in the short term Trump will be focused on helping candidates who "put America first" get elected over the next year and a half, Meadows also acknowledged "all this chatter" about whether the former president will run again.

"He's not going to make any announcement in the next week or two. And certainly would be months before we know whether he is going to be running again," Meadows cautioned. But, he went on, "as a guy that has had a number of conversations with him, the odds are that I think this is not the last time that we'll see Donald Trump's name on the ballot."

He did not reveal what type of campaign Trump might consider in the future. Trump told Fox News in April that he is "very seriously" considering another presidential bid in 2024 — and for now, he's frozen much of the rest of the prospective field from planning their runs. Also in April, the former US president gave a clear indication of his intentions for the 2024 race, saying he is “100 percent thinking about running again” and promising: “We will be very successful.”

In a recent interview, Trump entertained the idea of becoming House speaker and impeaching Biden as a "very interesting" one.

Meadows also touched on the investigations in New York looking into Trump's finances and business empire, claiming they are all about "trying to make sure that he's disqualified so he couldn't run again."

Meadows was a former U.S. congressman from North Carolina who left office to join the White House in 2020. He has made headlines in recent days over disclosed emails that show he pressed the Justice Department to investigate claims of 2020 election fraud.

After the Trump administration came to a close, Meadows joined the Conservative Partnership Institute and remains a close ally to his former boss.

Trump shared a message in a fundraising email for the group, according to the Carolina Journal, that said in part: “Led by two of the most fearless leaders in Washington and my great friends, Jim DeMint and Mark Meadows, CPI is helping to build out the vital infrastructure we need to lead the America First movement to new heights.”
