This sentence comes from a federal judge in Manhattan, and it is seen as a just punishment for a man who is said to have abused college students since at least 2010.
The Daily Caller reports that Lawrence Ray was convicted in April 2022 on charges that include racketeering, violent assault, extortion, sex trafficking, and forced labor, according to the Department of Justice. He moved into his daughter’s college dorm room in 2010, where he terrorized a group of college students at Sarah Lawrence College.
The federal judge who issued the prison sentence said Ray was “sadism, pure and simple.”

Daniel Levin is another victim who says that he was tortured by Lawrence Ray, who threatened him with a knife, forced him to choke on a dildo, and hit him with a sledgehammer while pulling out his tongue with pliers. It was torture, pure and simple.

Defense attorney Marne Lenox who worked on Ray’s defense petitioned the court for a 15-year maximum sentence for his client. However, the judge did not feel like that was nearly enough, and he gave Ray a 60-year sentence for his horrific crimes.

ABC 7 said that Ray put out a statement that mentioned his poor health and said, “it’s frightening to feel this bad,” but he did not mention the victims of his crimes at all.
The Southern District of New York and Lenox did not immediately respond when asked for comment by the Daily Caller. They might make a statement later, but they still need to.
