According to Fox News, former Vice President Mike Pence informed Congress Tuesday that he discovered classified documents at his Carmel, Indiana, home on January 16.

This comes on the heels of information that classified documents were discovered at Joe Biden's think tank at the Penn Biden Center and his home in Wilmington, Delaware.

Fox News reports that Pence's team stated that on January 18, 2023, they discovered a small number of potentially classified documents in his home. They were contained in two small boxes. Another two boxes contained copies of vice presidential papers. The National Archives informed the FBI about their procedure and protocol.

A lawyer for Pence by the name of Greg Jacob wrote to Acting Director Kate Dillon McClure on January 18 to inform her of classified documents discovered at the Pence residence. McClure is part of the White House Liaison Division National Archives and Records Administration and handles situations like this.

The FBI collected the documents found at Pence's home on January 19. Pence was at the annual March for Life in Washington DC while the FBI did its work.

Pence's lawyers state that while the documents bare the classified markings that often accompany them, it will be up to the Department of Justice to determine whether these are genuinely classified documents.

In a letter sent by Pence's lawyer Jacob to Chief Operating Officer William Bosanko of the National Archives and Records Administration on January 22, the DOJ departed from its typical procedures when it requested direct possession of the documents on January 19.

Other documents at the Pence home did not have classified markings, and they were driven from the Pence home to the National Archives in Washington, DC.

The House Oversight Committee confirmed to Fox News Digital that Chairman James Comer, R-Ky, was notified by Pence's team about the documents they had uncovered at his home.

Comer said the following in a statement:

"Former Vice President Mike Pence reached out today about classified documents found at his home in Indiana."

and

"He has agreed to fully cooperate with congressional oversight and any questions we have about the matter. Former Vice President Pence's transparency starkly contrasts to Biden's White House staff who continue to withhold information from Congress and the American people."
