This Math Professor Brings Woke To A Whole New Level With These Accusations

A Vanderbilt University professor might have set the record for bringing the most wokeness possible to the classroom.

Fox News reports that Luis Leyva, assistant professor of mathematics at Vanderbilt University, gave a lecture titled “Undergraduate Mathematics Education as a White, Cisheteropatriarchal Space and Opportunities for Structural Disruption to Advance Queer of Color Justice.”

The website of the Joint Mathematics Meeting also referenced the speech. Fox News says that the professor broke the lecture into two parts. The first half consisted of findings from Leyva’s research of “educational experiences of 39 undergraduate queer and trans students of color pursuing STEM majors across historically White and minority-serving universities in the United States.”.

The second half of the lecture included “coping strategies among QT students of color navigating white cisheteropatriarchy in STEM for protecting their academic success and intersectional identities.”

Fox News reports that Leyva said the following about the lectures: “I apply my framework and research findings to argue how undergraduate mathematics education operates as a white, cisheteropatriarchal space that limits learning opportunities affirming [of] queer of color identities and experiences. I conclude by re-imagining undergraduate mathematics education with structural disruptions that advance justice for learners marginalized across intersections of race, gender, and sexuality.”

What scares those opposed to this type of thinking is that Leyva delivered it to what has been billed as the largest mathematics gathering in the world on January 4, 2023, in Boston at the Joint Mathematics Meetings 2023. The Vanderbilt faculty website lists Leyva as an assistant professor of Mathematics Education, a Department of Teaching and Learning faculty affiliate, and works for the Department of Gender & Sexuality Studies.

Many view this as a strange combination of subjects for an individual professor to teach. Various topics appear mashed together and forced into some woke and prevalent ideology. Fox News Digital reached out to Vanderbilt University for comment on this lecture but has yet to receive word back at the time of this writing.

The only other detail available about what Leyva does is that the professor “explores narratives of oppression and agency across historically marginalized groups’ educational experiences to uncover interlocking functions of racism and cisheteropatriarchy in undergraduate STEM.”

Many are disturbed by the creeping of woke ideology into virtually every facet of student life and culture. It is something that has bothered many and left them wondering why it is that this is allowed to go on.
