U.S. officials made it clear on Tuesday that they were “ready and willing” to send M1 Abrams battle tanks to Ukraine to assist with the war effort there, according to the latest reporting by Breitbart. This report comes after multiple months-long requests by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for those tanks.
The officials who spoke about the situation asked that their identities not be revealed as they said the decision is not yet final. However, it seems likely that this is the direction the White House will take now.
The Associated Press reports that an official announcement about a decision to send 30-plus tanks to Ukraine could come as soon as Wednesday. However, they also noted that it might take several months to get the tanks to the battleground in Ukraine.

U.S. officials say they are still working directly with the Zelensky administration. However, Breitbart also notes that many high-ranking Ukrainian government officials have either recently resigned or lost their jobs because of several corruption allegations within the government.

Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Colin Kahl spoke last week about how difficult the Abrams tanks are to operate and how they require specialized training, according to Breitbart. He also mentioned that U.S. defense chief Lloyd Austin has been attempting to avoid providing equipment to Ukraine that “they can’t repair, they can’t sustain and that they over the long term can’t afford because it’s not helpful.”.

However, the Biden Administration changed course just seven days after hearing those comments. It is now ready to provide the Ukraine war effort with the tanks they have been requesting so adamantly.
The reversal in what the administration has decided to do comes just days after a group of 50 or so senior officials met in Germany to discuss the defense needs that Ukraine needs at this time, according to Breitbart.
