According to Breitbart, the Texas Facilities Commission awarded a $224 million contract to build approximately ten miles of wall along the border.

They are looking to build 30-foot tall pieces of the wall for approximately ten miles along state-owned properties along the Rio Grande in Webb County.

Breitbart reports that The Fisher Sand and Gravel Company has received the $224 million contract from the state government and has already begun work on the project.

The state has already been negotiating with farmers and ranchers along the Rio Grande in the Laredo and Del Rio Sectors. They are attempting to access as many pieces of private property along the border.

Many of these farmers and ranchers are in favor of the wall as they have seen a lot of property damage and garage left behind by migrants that travel through their land. Often, farmers are required to destroy their crops if they have migrants walking through those crops, as it can pose a health hazard to anyone that might eat the food that their crops produce.

Breitbart reports that one of the critical issues for ranchers is that they want a gate that will provide them with access to their land after the wall is completed.

Laredo Mayor, Dr. Victor Trevino, expressed some reservations about the border wall construction. He spoke with the Laredo Morning Times and stated the following:

"Being the mayor of the largest inland port, I am a supporter of border security, but I am not convinced that a physical border wall will do anything except divide our community along partisan lines." He continued, "In speaking with my counterpart in Nuevo Laredo, Alcaldesa Carmen Lilia Canturosas, we believe security can be achieved by working closer together than by being divided."

Border Patrol agents have already apprehended 13,622 migrants along the Laredo Sector just since October 1, 2022. It is the busiest sector for migration, and many in the area are sick and tired of dealing with the impacts of that migration on their land.

They have to keep destroying their crops, and it is frustrating to those who need the financial means to keep putting in new crops all the time. It is something that they want to make sure isn't a continued problem for them moving forward. The wall might help take care of this for them.
