But when Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval offered his own two cents, asking for a paternity test to see if Bengal’s quarterback Joe Burrow was Chief’s quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ father, players took notice but did not respond immediately.
Yahoo! Sports reported Bengals’ players took the trash-talking further in referring to their rival Kansas City Chiefs’ stadium as “Burrowhead Stadium” in anticipation of a win against them on Sunday.
The KC Chiefs didn’t immediately respond, but the words did not go unnoticed. Not at all. The Kansas City Chiefs bided their time until after the game ended.

The teams took the Kansas City field, and, in the end, the Chiefs won in their house, 23-20, over the Bengals, making them Super Bowl LVII bound to go head-to-head with the Philadelphia Eagles. All thanks to Harrison Butker bringing home the win in the final moments.

During the CBS postgame interview, Kansas City Chief’s Tight End Travis Keice decided it was time to give a little something back to the Cincinnati Bengals. Kelce interrupted Mahomes’ interview with, “Burrowhead, my a**! It’s Mahomes’ house!”

The trash-talking didn’t just start on Sunday. It began earlier in the week when Pureval proclaimed gameday as “They Gotta Play Us Day.” He rubbed it in by pointing out that KC’s Mahomes had an 0-3 record against Cincy’s quarterback Joe Burrow. According to Fox News, Mahomes’ said, “The mayor came at me, man. He’s the mayor of Cincinnati, so he’s gotta think about something.”

And Kelce continued. During the trophy presentation, he called back to the Cincinnati Mayor’s comments, saying, “I got some wise words for that Cincinnati mayor: Know your role and shut your mouth, you jabroni!”
Mahomes’ wife, Brittany, was not amused with the mayor’s comments either. She tweeted, “WEAK & embarrassing.”
The KC Chiefs will go to the Super Bowl for the third time within four years. While the Cincinnati Bengals are a good team, they’ll have to wait until next year to vie for a spot on the Super Bowl stage.
