The Gateway Pundit reports that Vera Liddell was accused of having stolen more than $1.5 million worth of chicken wings from low-income schools during the peak of the 2020 COVID pandemic. Court records show that the 66-year-old Liddell stole these chicken wings from the schools while the students were stuck at home and forced to take classes from their couches.
Documents from the court were reported on by WGN 9 and say the following:
“Even though the children were learning remotely, the school district continued to provide meals for the students that their families could pick up.”

Liddell allegedly ordered the chicken wings from one of the school system’s vendors and then picked up the food herself in a cargo van. In total, there were 11,000 cases of chicken wings in this one order. That is how the value of these chicken wings climbed as high as it did. There were simply a LOT of chicken wings stolen.

The chicken wings were never delivered to the school, and exactly what happened with them is unclear. The Harvey School District 152 manager conducted a routine audit of the system’s finances about midway through the year and found that the school was already $300,000 over budget at that point in the year. That appeared to have led them to understand that something was afoot.

WGN 9 reports that Liddell was arrested for theft and was placed in jail on a $150,000 bond.

The station also reports:
“The food service director for an impoverished south suburban school district is accused of stealing $1.5M worth of food – mainly chicken wings – according to court documents reviewed by WGN Investigates.

At Liddell’s bond hearing, it was stated that “The massive fraud began at the height of COVID during a time when students were not allowed to be physically present in school,” but meals were still being provided for families.

The food was allegedly never brought to the schools or provided to the children. Liddell apparently stole the food out of the mouths of low-income students in her Illinois community. It is a disturbing story that makes people want to laugh and get angry simultaneously.
