North Korea stated that it is prepared to counter the moves by the United States with the “most overwhelming nuclear force.” It also stated that the United States and South Korea conducting these joint military exercises were “pushing matters to an extreme red line.”.
This statement from Pyongyang’s Foreign Ministry came after comments by U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, who stated that the United States would increase the number of military assets that it sent to the Korean Peninsula. Some of those assets are going to include aircraft carriers and fighter jets. This equipment is meant to bolster the joint exercises that the United States and South Korea can engage in together.

Reports from Fox 43 state that South Korea has been more on edge than usual about military developments on the peninsula after North Korea test-fired dozens of missiles in 2022. Some of the missiles it has tested appear to have potentially been nuclear-equipped missiles.

A statement attributed to someone from the Foreign Ministry in North Korea states that the drills by the U.S. and South Korea have turned the entire Korean Peninsula into a “huge war arsenal and a more critical war zone.”

The spokesperson also stated:
“The military and political situation on the Korean Peninsula and in the region has reached an extreme red line due to the reckless military confrontational maneuvers and hostile acts of the U.S. and its vassal forces.”

South Korea’s Defense Ministry said that the United States flew B-1B bombers and F-22 and F-35 fighter jets in an exercise on Wednesday with South Korean fighter jets over South Korea’s western waters. The United States and South Korea are intent on holding a simulation exercise in the coming days in response to the nuclear threat from North Korea.
