Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), the leader of the House Minority, has expressed his disapproval of a House resolution that condemns the "horrors of socialism," calling it a "fraudulent" measure that could "undermine" the agenda of House Democrats.

Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar, who is of Cuban-American descent and represents Florida, proposed the anti-Socialism resolution. This was a symbolic action meant to express that the U.S. is based on the value of individual worth, which is in direct contrast with the collective system of socialism in any of its forms.

The resolution mentions that some of the most atrocious acts in history have been carried out by socialist leaders such as Vladimir Lenin, Joseph Stalin, and Hugo Chavez.

The resolution also states that, historically, socialist ideology has resulted in power being highly concentrated, which, in turn, has frequently led to the emergence of Communist regimes, totalitarian rule, and oppressive dictatorships.

Jeffries, similar to other Democratic House members, accused Republicans of taking advantage of the resolution to target social services such as social security and Medicaid.

Jeffries noted that the MAGA Republican party had labeled programs such as Social Security, Medicare, public education, Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act, and the American Rescue Plan as socialism.

Accusations from Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) have been made that the GOP engages in "fearmongering."

Congresswoman Waters declared that the resolution was extremely offensive to the citizens of America, and its purpose was to indicate that Social Security, Medicare, and fire departments are not patriotic. She stated that the resolution was as divisive as it was insulting.

The House Republicans, however, disregarded the Democrats' claims that their resolution was a criticism of social programs.

Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) firmly maintained that the resolution in question did not contain any references to entitlement programs or any restrictions on social services, despite claims by his Democratic colleagues.

McHenry commented that if the resolution would lead his fellow Democrats to declare their support for socialism openly, then it would be worth pursuing.

In the end, the resolution was passed by a bipartisan vote, with 328 for and 86 against. Every House Republican voted for the bill, and it was also approved by 126 House Democrats.

Rep. Salazar took to Twitter to express her pride over the House passing her and Steve Scalise's resolution that rejected socialism, taking to Twitter to do so. She noted that 328 members voted in favor of the resolution, which was a victory for individual freedom over the oppressive nature of collective government.
