Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government finally announced that it would shut down its supposed “misinformation” project.

The director of Harvard’s Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics, and Public Policy said in an e-mail that the project would be shut down due to a bureaucratic matter. According to Fox News, this project has been running for a year.

The director wrote the following in his e-mail:

“The Kennedy School’s standing policy is that all research projects must be led by a full faculty member. While there can be limited exceptions, those can’t continue indefinitely without a faculty member as the principal project leader and academic head.”

This means that Harvard will be parting ways with Dr. Joan Donovan, who had led the project since 2019, when it was first created to “help newsroom leaders fight misinformation and media manipulation." This put Donovan in the good graces of Democrats, who insisted that the news media was trying to pass on misinformation about various topics to aid conservatives in their quest to obtain higher office.

The cases that Donovan explored included the stories about Hunter Biden’s laptop. There was a strong push by supporters of the President to try to discredit those pushing for this story. Thus, many people are very clearly incentivized to make sure this story should be discredited. However, as more information came out, it became increasingly clear that there was validity to the story about Hunter’s laptop. That might have been part of the incentive for Harvard to do away with the “misinformation” project that it had previously been so adamant about pushing forward.

In a 2022 tweet, Donovan even referred to the Hunter Biden laptop story as a “straw man.” Further reporting on this issue has shown that this is the furthest thing from the truth. A lot of information about the Hunter Biden laptop story shows that it is a legitimate story that people should be concerned about.

On the day of the 2020 election, Donovan expressed doubt about the laptop story, according to Fox News:

“The sourcing of the laptop being dropped off in Delaware at a lonely repairman’s shop that’s just... If you can charge $85 for fixing a broken laptop, I want to know you. It’s a broken laptop, right? So, the sourcing of it just stinks of tradecraft. It stinks of a drop. And many cyber-security professionals are waiting for an opportunity to forensically analyze the contents of this hard drive.”
