On Monday, That Gay Jedi, a popular Twitter personality, announced the inclusion of a panel called "Star Wars is a DRAG!" at the 2023 Star Wars Convention.

According to the tweet, the panel will explore the role of drag in the Star Wars franchise and is open to attendees of all ages, including children as young as six years old.

In a follow-up tweet, the Gay Jedi spoke about the significant impact drag has had on the world, saying, "The long and varied background of drag has provided the world with entertainment, culture, politics, and even more. Therefore, it is not surprising that the art form has achieved such an influential position in our society that the principles and ideas behind drag can be seen in many facets of our everyday lives... and even Star Wars!"

That Gay Jedi pointed out that some of the most iconic Star Wars characters, such as Padme Amidala and Asajj Ventress, embody various principles of drag. The panel description states that drag has contributed to the world by providing entertainment, influencing culture, and inspiring political action.

However, not everyone was thrilled with the announcement of the drag panel. Popular YouTuber, Mr. H Reviews, stated that the panel was "wholly inappropriate" for a Star Wars event, which he considered to be intended for children. Mr. H also expressed concern about the sexualized nature of some drag performances, including a holiday-themed drag show in Austin, Texas, where explicit sexual activities took place in front of minors.

That Gay Jedi responded to the criticism in a YouTube video, saying, "I basically just don't want to let people get away with putting my name in their mouth and as a queer person I am not going to be quiet about it," The Gay Jedi went on to say that the panel description does not contain any "sexualized," "grooming," or "political" elements.

The "Star Wars is a DRAG!" panel at the Star Wars Celebration event has sparked a debate about the appropriateness of drag content for children. While some have expressed concern about the sexualized nature of some drag performances, others, like That Gay Jedi, believe that the panel is appropriate for all ages and does not contain any explicit or offensive material.
