It's no secret that the highly conservative and patriotic Georgia Republican Marjorie Taylor-Greene, and the radical socialist Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, have contrasting political ideologies. However, on February 2, their long-standing disagreement reached a new level on social media.

The latest episode in their rivalry started after MTG challenged AOC's comments about her past and her opposition to the values that MTG holds dear. AOC had expressed her discomfort with serving in the same chamber as a politician who has a history of promoting divisive and hateful messages on social media.

Despite being stripped of all committee assignments in 2021 due to her unapologetic stance on protecting American values and freedoms, MTG was reinstated to several committees, including one that the AOC serves on.

MTG accused AOC of cowardice and avoiding a public debate, to which AOC responded by pointing out that they had already had a debate earlier in the week during a committee meeting. During the meeting, MTG made an inaccurate statement about a single elementary school in Chicago receiving $5 billion in federal funds to teach Critical Race Theory, a statement that has since gone viral online.

The two politicians have a history of hostility, with AOC taunting MTG for the recent defeat of an amendment she introduced in the House, receiving just 14 votes in favor with 418 votes against. The most notable conflict between the two occurred a year ago, when MTG confronted AOC outside the House chamber, challenging her about the Green New Deal and accusing her of supporting terrorism.

While MTG has expressed a desire for a one-on-one public debate, it is unlikely that this will resolve their differences, given their vastly contrasting political views. MTG, a strong supporter of President Trump, has been focused on building her personal profile and potentially running as Vice President in the 2024 election.
