South Carolina Senator Tim Scott is anticipated to declare his candidacy for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination on May 22.

Although he has not explicitly confirmed his intention to run, he hinted at an upcoming announcement during a North Charleston event scheduled for three weeks from now.

Scott has already established an exploratory committee, enabling him to raise funds, conduct polling, and travel while he makes his decision. Furthermore, he has embarked on a listening tour across the United States, visiting New Hampshire and Iowa, which hold the earliest primary and caucus events.

On Sunday, while speaking at the Meeting Street Academy in Charleston, Scott remarked, "It is time to make the final step," adding, "we will have a major announcement." According to the Associated Press, a film crew was present at the school, capturing content to be utilized later.

If Scott decides to enter the race, he will join an already crowded field of contenders. Former President Donald Trump currently leads the GOP pack in the polls, with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis trailing closely behind. Although DeSantis has not yet confirmed his plans, he is expected to announce them soon.

Nikki Haley, the former South Carolina Governor who appointed Scott to the Senate, has already launched her campaign, as has entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.

Former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson has also entered the race, and there is speculation that former Vice President Mike Pence may also pursue the presidency.

The Associated Press reports that Scott's fundraising efforts have been gaining momentum. The pro-Scott super PAC, Opportunity Matters Fund, spent over $20 million to support Republicans in 2022 and reported a surplus of $13 million at the beginning of 2023. Tech billionaire Larry Ellison has contributed at least $30 million to the organization since 2021, as evidenced by federal filings.
