Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has announced that 16 individuals will face criminal charges for their alleged involvement in alternative elector efforts following the 2020 presidential election.

The charges, brought forth by the attorney general's office, include eight felony counts each, such as election law forgery, conspiracy, and uttering and publishing.

According to Nessel, the accused individuals participated in an orchestrated plan, meeting clandestinely in the basement of Michigan GOP Headquarters. They knowingly and willingly signed multiple certificates falsely claiming to be the "duly elected and qualified electors for President and Vice President of the United States of America for the State of Michigan." Nessel emphasized that this assertion was a lie.

"These individuals were not the duly elected and qualified electors, and each of the defendants knew it. They carried out these actions with the hope and belief that Michigan's electoral votes would be awarded to their preferred candidate, rather than the candidate chosen by the voters of Michigan," Nessel stated. She further revealed that some of the accused individuals attempted to deliver their fabricated electoral votes to the Senate floor at the state capitol but were denied entry.

The fraudulent electoral documents were subsequently transmitted to the United States Senate and the National Archives, with the intention of Vice President Pence using them to overturn the election results. Nessel condemned this plan as "fraudulent and legally baseless." She argued that the actions of these 16 individuals not only undermined public trust in the integrity of elections but also violated the laws governing the administration of elections in Michigan and the peaceful transfer of power in the United States.

It is worth noting that Nessel has faced criticism in the past for her statements regarding drag queens. She previously stated that "drag queens make everything better" and advocated for "a drag queen for every school." These remarks have sparked controversy and drawn attention to her political views.
