During a House Oversight Committee hearing on Wednesday, Rep. Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.) unintentionally provided evidence that President Joe Biden had conversations with his son, Hunter Biden, regarding his business dealings.

The hearing, which featured two IRS whistleblowers, aimed to establish that Biden had no involvement in or discussions about Hunter's overseas business ventures. However, Goldman's line of questioning seemed to contradict this narrative.

Goldman drew attention to previous testimony from whistleblower Gary Shapley, who claimed that Hunter Biden's business associate, Rob Walker, informed the FBI that Joe Biden had "stopped in" during a lunch meeting with executives from the Chinese energy firm CEFC. According to Shapley, during this meeting, Hunter allegedly informed his father about his intentions to start a company or engage in business with the Chinese firm.

Goldman seized on this revelation, suggesting that it contradicted the notion that Joe Biden had no involvement in Hunter's dealings with CEFC. However, Shapley quickly clarified that while it did not imply Joe Biden's direct involvement, it did demonstrate that Hunter had discussed his business plans with his father.

Goldman, seemingly realizing the implications of Shapley's response, attempted to downplay its significance by using sarcasm. He sarcastically acknowledged that Hunter Biden indeed pursued business opportunities, before asserting that Shapley's comments actually supported Joe Biden's claims.

Legal scholar Jonathan Turley viewed this exchange as a damaging moment for the Bidens during the hearing. Turley argued that Goldman's line of questioning inadvertently led to the establishment of Joe Biden's discussions about his son's business deals with the Chinese. In Turley's analysis, Goldman's unintentional revelation may have been one of the most damaging moments for the Bidens during the hearing.

The hearing, which aimed to exonerate Joe Biden from any involvement in Hunter's business affairs, seemed to have backfired with Goldman's questioning. The unintentional evidence of Joe Biden's knowledge and discussions about Hunter's business dealings with CEFC raised further questions about the extent of his involvement.
