President Biden is reportedly making a deliberate shift in his use of the "lower stairs" on Air Force One to avoid tripping incidents and make his travel easier, according to a report from Politico.

The outlet noted that two of Biden's advisers privately acknowledged this intentional change, aiming to limit the possibility of missteps for the 80-year-old president.

In addition to using the lower stairs, Biden has also been seen wearing sneakers instead of dress shoes recently. Politico reported that this change in footwear is another concession to comfort necessitated by age. Previously, Biden had always resisted wearing anything other than dress shoes, believing that any other footwear would appear unpresidential. However, he has relaxed this stance in recent months.

When asked about the reported change and whether the president was experiencing mobility problems, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre did not provide a clear response. She stated, "I don't have any decision process to walk through... I'm sure there's a protocol that's used for Air Force One. I just don't have one."

Biden has had multiple tripping incidents while walking up the stairs of Air Force One, prompting his aides to take measures to limit situations where signs of physical frailty might be more noticeable.

According to Politico, it is common for presidents to use the shorter stairs during bad weather conditions.

Concerns about President Biden's age and his ability to serve a second term have been expressed by voters, Democrats, and even his own aides as he campaigns for re-election in 2024.

However, Biden has touted his age as an advantage, claiming that he possesses more wisdom and experience than the vast majority of people. In a May interview with MSNBC, he stated, "I know more than the vast majority of people. I'm more experienced than anybody who has ever run for the office, and I think I've proven myself to be honorable as well as effective."
