Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has expressed his belief that former President Donald Trump should participate in the upcoming Republican presidential primary debate.

DeSantis emphasized that Trump should "earn it" and that nobody is entitled to be nominated. In an interview with Ainsley Earhardt on Fox News Channel's "Fox & Friends," DeSantis stated, "You've gotta earn it. You gotta earn everything in this world."

Currently, Trump is leading the GOP primary field, with DeSantis trailing in a distant second place. The first GOP primary debate is scheduled to take place on August 23 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Candidates who wish to participate must meet specific polling and fundraising requirements. Additionally, candidates must pledge their support to the eventual GOP nominee in order to secure a spot on the debate stage.

Despite his strong position, Trump has raised the possibility of skipping the debate, questioning the purpose of participating when he is leading by a significant margin. During an interview on Newsmax, Trump stated, "If you're leading by a lot, what's the purpose of doing it?"

Other primary candidates vying for the GOP presidential nomination include former Vice President Mike Pence, who served alongside Trump, and former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, who held that position during part of Trump's tenure in the White House.

Meanwhile, incumbent President Joe Biden appears to be on track to secure the Democratic Party's presidential nomination. If Trump were to secure the Republican nomination for a third time, the 2024 election could potentially become a rematch of the 2020 contest, in which Trump lost to Biden.
