Admiral Lisa Franchetti has been chosen by the Biden Administration to lead the United States Navy, making her the first woman to serve as a Pentagon service chief.

This decision by President Joe Biden goes against the recommendations of his own Pentagon chief. In a statement from the White House addressing the nomination of Franchetti and other officers, it was highlighted that she has demonstrated extensive expertise in both the operational and policy arenas throughout her career. The statement also noted that Franchetti is the second woman ever to achieve the rank of four-star admiral in the United States Navy.

However, this appointment comes at a time when Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) has been holding up military nominations in the Senate in an attempt to bring a vote that could potentially change abortion policy at the Pentagon. Currently, the policy allows women to seek assistance in obtaining an abortion by traveling across state lines. Tuberville aims to reverse this policy by putting it up for a vote.

The Biden Administration responded to Tuberville's actions, stating that what he is doing is not only wrong but also dangerous. They emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong and capable military in the face of rapidly evolving security environments and intense competition.

Tuberville, on the other hand, defended his stance by addressing concerns over military readiness, stating that if he believed it would have a negative impact on national security, he would not be taking this action. He expressed his concerns about the military becoming "woke" and losing its regulations and formulations for recruiting new members.

Service members have been raising concerns about the impact of "woke" messaging on military recruitment. In a report from the US Air Force, Franchetti and other female leaders in the military discussed the benefits of military service. Franchetti highlighted that women bring essential skills that the military needs in order to be the world's most formidable fighting force, ready to deter, fight, and win whenever the nation needs.
