A Lowe's employee in Rincon, Georgia, was terminated from her job after attempting to prevent shoplifters from stealing over $2,000 worth of merchandise.

Donna Hansbrough, who had been with the company for 13 years, took action on June 25 when she noticed three suspects loading up a shopping cart with stolen items and leaving the store.

According to the Rincon Police Department, Hansbrough tried to stop one of the suspects by grabbing the shopping cart. However, she was met with violence as Takyah Berry, one of the shoplifters, struck her in the face three times, causing her right eye to swell and blacken. The other two suspects were identified as Jarmar Lawton and Joseph Berry, Takyah Berry's uncle.

Law enforcement officials have arrested Lawton but are still searching for Joseph Berry and Takyah Berry. The stolen merchandise is estimated to be worth $2,101.

Surprisingly, Lowe's fired Hansbrough for her attempt to intervene, citing a violation of the company's policy against interfering with shoplifters. Hansbrough expressed her frustration, stating, "They say that if you see somebody stealing something out the door, not to pursue, not to go out. I lost it. I grabbed the cart. I don't actually remember going out but I did. And I grabbed the cart that had the stolen items in (it)."

Hansbrough admitted that she disregarded her training in the heat of the moment and didn't expect to be terminated. She hoped for a reprimand or suspension instead. Unfortunately, she does not anticipate being rehired by Lowe's and is currently seeking new employment.

In response to her unjust dismissal, a GoFundMe campaign was launched to support Hansbrough during her job search. The campaign aims to assist her with any bills she may face while she looks for new employment. As of now, the crowdfunding initiative has raised nearly $13,000.

The Rincon Police Department is urging anyone with information about the shoplifting incident or the whereabouts of Joseph Berry and Takyah Berry to contact them at 912-826-5200.
