According to the New York Post, Garcia, a convicted felon, was arrested at the scene and arraigned for attempted murder. The woman was transported to the hospital after suffering "significant" blood loss and nerve damage to her thigh.
Assistant District Attorney Lauren Breens stated that Garcia stabbed the woman "several times while she attempted to aid him," causing "serious physical injury from the stab wounds to her chest, arm, and leg."

A video obtained by the Post captured the aftermath of the stabbing, showing the woman collapsing to the ground and screaming as her fellow EMS workers tended to her wounds and tried to prevent Garcia from inflicting further harm.

During his arrest, Garcia claimed that the EMS team was "fake" and had "kidnapped" him.
Garcia has a history of criminal convictions, including two prior felony convictions for assaulting a police officer in 2017 and three misdemeanor convictions. In June, he was found in possession of a knife in his boot at a subway station.

Bryn Lloyd-Bollard, a spokesman for 1199SEIU, United Healthcare Workers East, expressed concern over the prevalence of violence against EMS workers, stating that it is "all too common." She emphasized the need for New York to take action to ensure the safety of these frontline heroes.

Oren Barzilay, the head of Local 2507 representing ambulance EMTs and paramedics, highlighted the vulnerability of EMS workers, stating that they are "sitting ducks" as they wait at street corners. Barzilay revealed that his team has been assaulted approximately 110 times this year, mostly by patients. FDNY officials reported that 121 EMS workers have been attacked so far this year.
