A Florida couple has been apprehended and accused of human trafficking after it was discovered that they were exploiting women by bonding them out of jail and coercing them into prostitution.

Joselito Martinez and Tanya Wurster, residents of Marion County, have been charged with forcing three women into prostitution between 2019 and 2021, as reported by the Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation (MBI). Both individuals have been incarcerated at Orange County Jail and are facing three counts of deriving support from the proceeds of prostitution.

According to authorities, the couple would bond women out of jail and provide them with housing before trafficking them to various locations in Central Florida. In addition to offering shelter, Martinez employed tactics such as administering narcotics, issuing threats of violence, and subjecting the victims to degrading acts like shaving their heads in order to maintain control over them.

Shockingly, he even compelled two of the women to accept tattoos, effectively branding them as his property. It is worth noting that the couple's child resided in the same household where these heinous activities were taking place.

This is not the first brush with the law for Martinez and Wurster. In 2016, they were arrested for fraud, with Wurster serving a sentence of one year and six months. At the time of their most recent arrest, Martinez was still on probation after being released in 2019 for the previous charge. Consequently, in addition to the trafficking charges, Martinez is also facing allegations of violating his probation.

The couple managed to amass over $300,000 in profits over the course of two years while exploiting these women for commercial sex. This shocking revelation underscores the urgent need to combat human trafficking and protect vulnerable individuals from falling victim to such heinous crimes.

The issue of human trafficking has gained significant public attention, partly due to the recent release of the film "Sound of Freedom," which sheds light on the stories of trafficking victims. Former President Trump even hosted a screening of the movie in New Jersey, further raising awareness about this pervasive issue.

Government officials in the United States have expressed concern over the increasing rates of human trafficking in recent years. They argue that the COVID-19 pandemic has played a role in exacerbating this problem. It is imperative that law enforcement agencies, policymakers, and communities work together to address this grave issue and provide support to survivors of human trafficking.
