A prominent Democratic donor appointed by President Joe Biden to a prestigious commission has been revealed as one of the buyers of Hunter Biden's artwork, according to documents obtained by Business Insider.

Elizabeth Hirsh Naftali, a Los Angeles real estate investor, was appointed to the Commission for the Preservation of America's Heritage Abroad in July 2022, eight months after Hunter's first art opening. It is unclear whether Naftali purchased the art before or after her appointment to the commission.

The Commission for the Preservation of America's Heritage Abroad works to protect historical sites associated with the foreign heritage of American citizens. Naftali, who donated over $200,000 to the Biden Victory Fund during the 2020 campaign, has also contributed $13,414 to the Biden campaign and $29,700 to the Democratic National Committee in 2023.

An email found on Hunter Biden's laptop reportedly suggests that he believed he could influence appointments to the commission. The documents obtained by Business Insider also reveal that an unnamed buyer purchased 11 of Hunter Biden's art pieces for $875,000, and overall sales of his artwork have reportedly generated $1.3 million.

Hunter's attorney, Kevin Morris, who was recently seen smoking from a bong during a visit with the president's son, also owns some of the artwork, although it is unclear whether it was a gift or a purchase.

Former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki previously stated that the selling of Hunter Biden's art and the setting of prices would be handled by a professional gallerist adhering to high ethical standards. She emphasized that any offers outside the normal course would be rejected, and the gallerist would not disclose the identities of buyers or prospective buyers to Hunter Biden or the administration, ensuring a level of protection and transparency.

Walter Shaub, former head of the Office of Government Ethics under President Barack Obama, has criticized the Biden administration, claiming that they have "outsourced government ethics to a private art dealer" and are relying on unknown art purchasers to maintain secrecy.

In response to these concerns, Biden's lawyer, Abbe Lowell, stated that Hunter's gallery sets the pricing and handles all sales with the highest ethical standards, and does not disclose the names of purchasers to Hunter Biden.

The revelation of a Democratic donor's involvement in purchasing Hunter Biden's artwork raises questions about potential conflicts of interest and the influence of political connections. Critics argue that the lack of transparency surrounding the sales and the involvement of private art dealers in government ethics pose ethical concerns.
