Megan Joyce Imirowicz, 19, was upset with her 64-year-old father, Konrad Imirowicz, for being intoxicated and unable to drive her to the salon ahead of her 18th birthday party, according to prosecutors.
Imirowicz carried out the attack by throwing lye powder and water on her father while he was asleep in their Groveland Township home, northwest of Detroit, on October 1, 2021. The victim was later found by Imirowicz's friends, lying on a couch with severe chemical burns.
Despite being informed of her father's injuries over the phone, Imirowicz showed no remorse and hung up, prosecutors said. Konrad Imirowicz was eventually taken to Ascension Genesys Hospital several hours after the attack. However, the damage was extensive, and he had to undergo amputation of both legs, a tracheotomy, skin grafts, and treatment for various infections and kidney failure.

After months of suffering, Konrad Imirowicz tragically passed away on March 6, 2022, as a result of his injuries. Following his death, Megan Imirowicz, who had been in jail, denied throwing chemicals on her father, claiming instead that she had thrown bread at him to wake him up.

On June 15, Imirowicz was convicted of unlawful possession or use of harmful devices causing death, a charge that carried a potential life sentence. However, Judge Victoria Valentine surprised many by sentencing her to just one year in jail, with credit for the 506 days she had already served, followed by five years of probation.

As part of her probation, Imirowicz will undergo a psychological examination, drug testing, and a court review after six months. She will also be required to wear an electronic tether. Chief Assistant Prosecutor David Williams expressed disappointment with the sentence, stating, "This was not the sentence we advocated for, however, the judge ultimately decides what sentence will be imposed."

Imirowicz, seemingly unaffected by the gravity of her actions, expressed her satisfaction with the lenient sentence, stating, "I was praying for a miracle today and that's what I got." She also remarked that she felt fortunate to have Judge Valentine presiding over her case.
After leaving the courthouse, Imirowicz reportedly went out for a meal of nuggets and fries, displaying a disturbing lack of remorse for her father's tragic death.
