Barricades were erected outside the Fulton County courthouse in Atlanta on Thursday, signaling a significant development in the ongoing investigation into former President Donald Trump's alleged attempts to undermine the results of Georgia's 2020 election.

District Attorney Fani Willis is reportedly nearing a decision on whether to indict Trump, according to New Yorker staff writer Charles Bethea, who reported from the scene.

Video footage shared by Bethea on social media showed a long line of orange barriers lining the edge of a one-way street in front of the courthouse. This heightened security presence has sparked speculation that an announcement regarding the case is imminent.

Willis had previously suggested that a decision on whether to indict Trump would likely be made in August. In a letter addressed to county Superior Court Chief Judge Ural Glanville, Willis requested that trials and in-person hearings not be scheduled during the first three weeks of August, as reported by CNN. The letter was also copied to Sheriff Pat Labat and 18 other officials.

The Daily Beast recently reported that the Fulton County case could be the most significant legal challenge that Trump currently faces. Joe Pagliery, writing for The Beast, stated that the Atlanta prosecutor's investigation into Trump's alleged election interference is expected to result in his third indictment, or possibly his fourth if Jack Smith, another prosecutor, indicts him before Fani Willis does.

Pagliery emphasized the gravity of the Atlanta case, stating that while any charges against Trump could potentially lead to jail time, the Fulton County investigation is particularly damning and poses a significant threat to the former President.

The report also highlighted a story from The Guardian, which indicated that Fulton County prosecutors are preparing racketeering charges in connection with the Trump probe. Hugo Lowell, writing for The Guardian, explained that Georgia's racketeering statute requires prosecutors to demonstrate the existence of an "enterprise" and a pattern of racketeering activity based on at least two qualifying crimes.

"In the Trump investigation, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has evidence to pursue a racketeering indictment based on statutes related to influencing witnesses and computer trespass," sources familiar with the matter told The Guardian.
