White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked by a reporter on Thursday if President Biden would be willing to directly address journalists about his health.

The reporter suggested that any questions regarding the President's health could be cleared up if he were to step out of the White House and speak with reporters for 45 minutes. Jean-Pierre smiled and chuckled at the question before responding.

"I appreciate the request. Thank you for the request. The President, as you know, you know, again, I appreciate the question and I get it. The President understands," Jean-Pierre said. "You guys want to ask him questions and have the opportunity for him to answer your questions."

Jean-Pierre then shifted the focus to the economy, highlighting President Biden's accomplishments in his first two years in office.

"I do want to say, this is a President that has done more in the first two years, two-and-a-half years, when it comes to the economy, really giving the American people a little bit of breathing room than any other President. All you gotta do is look at the data. All you gotta do is look at where we are in this country."

According to a recent Quinnipiac poll, voters consider the economy to be the most important issue heading into the 2024 presidential election. Thirty-one percent of those surveyed identified the economy as their top concern, while only seven percent mentioned abortion, immigration, or gun violence.

"There was a conversation for almost two years about a recession, and now you have economists saying that because of the work this President has done these past two years, we're not headed in that way," Jean-Pierre explained. "So you know, this is a President that wakes up every morning thinking about the American people and doing that job and doing the work, and you see that."

President Biden's age has been a subject of controversy throughout his presidency. A congressional Democrat recently told NBC News that Democrats need to be more responsive to concerns about Biden's age, as aides continue to make adjustments to avoid any "embarrassing and dangerous" incidents.

If President Biden were to win reelection in 2024, he would be 86 years old at the end of his second term. Despite the concerns, Biden has occasionally made light of his age, joking with diplomats at the White House that while he may appear young, he benefits from the wisdom that comes with advanced age.

"I know I look like I am still only 29, but I've been around a long time," Biden quipped. "As one of my friends said, try to connect age and wisdom."
