Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin is garnering attention from high-powered GOP donors, who are shifting their focus away from Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

While Youngkin is flattered by the consideration for a national role, he remains committed to his responsibilities in Virginia. In an interview with USA Today, Youngkin expressed his gratitude, stating, "It’s really humbling when people talk about 2024 and a national role for me. And I thank them, and then I reiterate that I’ve got a big job to do here."

Recent polls reflect Youngkin's growing popularity, with his approval rating reaching an all-time high of 57 percent. Conversely, DeSantis is experiencing a decline in support for the 2024 GOP primaries, falling behind entrepreneur Vivek Ramasway in the latest Ohio poll.

One notable donor who has shifted his allegiance is billionaire businessman Thomas Peterffy, who previously funded DeSantis' campaign. Peterffy paused his contributions in April due to disagreements over DeSantis' stance on abortion and the removal of age-inappropriate books from schools. Speaking to Fox Business,

Peterffy expressed his hope for Youngkin's entry into the race, stating, "I very much hope that he’s going to enter the race. People I speak to are all favorably inclined towards him. If he entered, I think there would be tremendous enthusiasm."

Media mogul Rupert Murdoch, owner of Fox News, is also hoping for a Youngkin run. His outlets have recently become more critical of DeSantis. Additionally, former commerce secretary to Trump, Wilbur Ross, is reportedly hosting a gathering in the Hamptons on Friday for top donors and party leaders. The event will provide an opportunity to hear Youngkin discuss his plans for taking over the Virginia legislature.
