Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has issued a warning that a group of approximately 100 Russian Wagner mercenaries is moving closer to Poland's border through Belarus.

The Prime Minister made this statement during a press conference at an arms factory in Gliwice, southern Poland, where Ukrainian army tanks are being repaired.

The Polish government, a member of both the European Union and NATO, has accused Belarus of engaging in "hybrid warfare" by facilitating illegal migration at the Polish border. It is alleged that Minsk has encouraged migrants to fly into Belarus with the false promise of easy access to the European Union, as reported by the BBC.

The region of concern is the Suwalki Gap, a strategic stretch of Polish territory situated between Belarus and Kaliningrad, a Russian territory separated from the mainland. The Suwalki Gap also runs along Poland's 60-mile-long border with Lithuania, another European Union member state.

Prime Minister Morawiecki expressed his concern that the Wagner mercenaries might pose as Belarusian border guards to assist migrants in crossing into the European Union. He stated, "Now the situation becomes even more dangerous. This is certainly a step toward a further hybrid attack on Polish territory."

According to reports, thousands of Russian mercenaries have relocated to Belarus since a failed coup orchestrated by Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin last month. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko assured Russian President Vladimir Putin that he would keep the Wagner mercenaries in central Belarus, despite their desire to travel west towards Warsaw, the capital of Poland.

In response to the escalating situation, Poland's Interior Ministry announced that Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia may jointly decide to close their borders with Belarus if incidents involving the Wagner mercenaries occur on the frontier.

The Poland-Belarus border has been tense for several years due to the influx of immigrants from the Middle East and Africa. The Polish government has accused Russia and Belarus of using migrants to destabilize Poland and other European Union countries. In response, Poland has constructed a high wall along parts of its border with Belarus.

The presence of Russian Wagner mercenaries near Poland's border raises concerns about potential security threats and further destabilization in the region. The situation remains fluid, and the Polish government, along with its European Union and NATO allies, will closely monitor developments to ensure the safety and security of their borders.
