Republican Representative Ronny Jackson of Texas was briefly detained by law enforcement while attempting to assist a teenage girl in medical distress, according to his office.

On Saturday evening, Rep. Jackson, who gained prominence as the White House physician for former Presidents George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Donald Trump, attended the annual White Deer Rodeo in White Deer, Texas.

In the midst of a loud and chaotic environment, a 15-year-old girl experienced a medical emergency, and her aunt, a nurse, sought additional help. With no uniformed EMS providers present, someone called upon Dr. Jackson to assist the girl.

However, law enforcement misunderstood the situation and detained Jackson, temporarily separating him from the girl. Once officers realized that Jackson was a physician intervening in a medical emergency, he was released. Nonetheless, the temporary detainment prevented Jackson from providing further assistance to the patient, according to his office's statement. The current condition of the girl and whether she was taken to a medical facility that evening remain unknown.

EMS teams from White Deer and nearby Gray County confirmed that they responded to calls from the rodeo that resulted in the detainment of one individual. Carson County Sheriff Tam Terry acknowledged that one person had been temporarily detained in connection to the situation but did not disclose the individual's identity. Terry also stated that his office is still reviewing the incident.

Newsweek, in its coverage of Jackson's alleged detainment, focused on a specific detail in the congressman's office statement. The statement emphasized that Jackson "was not drinking" that night, even though no news reports had commented on Jackson's condition during the incident.

This information may have been included to preempt any questions from the media regarding alcohol consumption. In 2021, the Department of Defense's inspector general released a report accusing Jackson of professional misconduct during his tenure as White House physician, alleging that he drank alcohol and took Ambien sleeping pills while on duty.

Jackson vehemently denied these allegations, stating that Democrats were using the report to perpetuate false attacks on his integrity. He emphasized his dedication to duty and service throughout his professional life, having served in the U.S. Navy for 24 years before retiring as a rear admiral in 2019.

Jackson, a staunch supporter of former President Trump, was elected to Congress in 2020 and re-elected in November 2022. He has already endorsed Trump for the 2024 presidential race.
