The director of Bronx Rises Against Gun Violence (BRAG), Michael Rodriguez, has been charged in a drug and gun bust in upstate New York, according to officials.

The raid on Rodriguez's Yonkers home yielded drugs, two illegal guns, and over $165,000 in cash. The charges come after a two-year investigation into Rodriguez's alleged involvement in supplying drugs to dealers in Middletown and Port Jervis for distribution on the streets.

Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark expressed shock and disappointment at the allegations against Rodriguez, stating, "These charges are the exact opposite of the good work cure violence groups are doing." Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler also found the charges ironic, given Rodriguez's position as the director of an anti-violence program. He remarked, "So, the very guy that we have that is supposed to be stopping gun violence in one jurisdiction in New York City, is poisoning our jurisdiction up here."

A spokesperson for BRAG acknowledged the charges against Rodriguez but emphasized their focus on the communities they serve and the programs that help keep them safe. Rodriguez has been charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance, second-degree conspiracy, and first-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

This development raises questions about the effectiveness and integrity of anti-violence programs in New York City. The arrest of the director of BRAG, an organization dedicated to combating gun violence, highlights the potential for corruption and hypocrisy within such initiatives. It remains to be seen how this incident will impact the perception and credibility of anti-violence efforts in the Bronx and beyond.
