Robert Bowers, the man responsible for the targeted attack on Pittsburgh Jews in 2018 that resulted in the deaths of 11 people, has been sentenced to death, according to reports from multiple sources.

In July, a jury determined that Bowers was eligible for capital punishment, despite arguments from his defense team that he suffered from mental disorders that impaired his understanding of the gravity of his actions. After deliberating for over ten hours over the course of two days, the jury reached a verdict that Bowers should be put to death for deliberately targeting Jewish worshipers at the Tree of Life synagogue.

The jury found that the prosecution had successfully proven all five aggravating factors, including Bowers' lack of remorse, his deliberate targeting of victims, and his intention to instill fear within the Jewish community at large, as reported by The New York Times.

Bowers' attorney has not yet responded to requests for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.

In 2018, Bowers entered the synagogue during a worship service armed with a semi-automatic rifle, resulting in the deaths of 11 people and injuries to six others. After his arrest, Bowers confessed to intentionally seeking out Jewish individuals, stating, "All Jews must die." This confession allowed the Department of Justice to elevate the charges to a hate crime status.

In June, Bowers was found guilty on 63 charges, including eleven counts of obstruction of free exercise of religious beliefs resulting in death and twenty-five counts of discharge of a firearm during these violent crimes. Bowers' attorney, Judy Clarke, known for her defense of the "Unabomber" Ted Kaczynski, acknowledged her client's guilt regarding the shooting charges but argued that Bowers' schizophrenia rendered him unfit to be charged with the intent necessary for a hate crime.

Judge Robert Colville, presiding over the case, denied the defense's motions for a mistrial and a request to exhume Bowers' father, Randall Bowers, to provide evidence of a genetic passing of mental illness. The jury's verdict acknowledged a multigenerational family history of mental illness and neurological problems but denied that both Bowers and his father had been diagnosed with schizophrenia, according to The New York Times.

Rabbi Jeffrey Myers of the Tree of Life synagogue expressed gratitude for the court's guilty verdict on all charges but has not commented on the sentencing.
