The D.C. Metropolitan Police have confirmed that there were no injuries at the U.S. Capitol after a false report of an active shooter prompted a lockdown of the Senate office buildings.

According to a spokesperson for D.C. Metro police, a call came in for an active shooter, but it turned out to be a bad call. No injuries were reported, and no shooter was located. The Metropolitan Police are assisting the U.S. Capitol Police in their investigation.

The Capitol Police had been searching for a possible active shooter at the Capitol, leading to the lockdown of the Senate office buildings. Staff were instructed to hide in their offices and keep their phones on silent. The Capitol Police tweeted that their officers were searching in and around the Senate Office Buildings in response to a concerning 911 call. They urged the public to stay away from the area as the investigation continued.

Despite the lockdown and concerns, the Capitol Police confirmed that they had not received any confirmed reports of gunshots. It is important to note that Congress is currently on recess, so most senators are not in Washington, D.C.

The House Sergeant at Arms sent a message to staff confirming that the Capitol Police were responding to a potential internal security threat in the Senate Office Buildings. Staff were advised to avoid the area and stay updated for more information.

Videos posted on social media showed Senate staffers exiting the Russell Senate Office Building accompanied by police officers. Some staffers had their hands up in the air as they left the building.

As of 3:15 p.m., the Capitol Police were still urging staff to shelter in place as they continued their investigation. However, the D.C. Metropolitan Police stated that it appeared to be a false alarm and no shooter was found. An official all-clear has not yet been issued.

In other news, former President Donald Trump is expected to be in close proximity to the Capitol complex on Thursday as he has been summoned to federal court following his indictment in the January 6 case. Despite this, the Capitol Police have reportedly not changed the security posture of the Capitol complex.
