In a recent development, Jay Leno, the renowned television personality, has been granted conservatorship over his wife, Mavis Leno, by the Los Angeles County Superior Court.

The decision came on Tuesday, following Jay's petition for conservatorship in the wake of Mavis' diagnosis with "advanced dementia" in January, as reported by People.

Mavis Leno, who has been married to Jay for four decades, is said to be "in agreement" with the conservatorship, according to her lawyer. The attorney also confirmed that Mavis is currently "receiving excellent care with her husband, Mr. Leno." Jay's primary motive behind the petition was to establish a living trust for his wife, ensuring she has "managed assets" to provide for her future care, in the event that he predeceases her.

The presiding judge expressed her agreement with Jay's decision to proceed with the legal motion. "I think she's in the least restrictive environment. I think she's in very good care with Mr. Leno," the judge stated. Addressing Jay directly, she added, "Everything you're doing is right," and acknowledged, "I totally understand this is a difficult period."

Jay informed the court that he is in the midst of estate planning and is currently evaluating his wife's will. As all their assets are common property, there is no issue regarding division of any kind as part of the conservatorship.

The court proceedings progressed smoothly, devoid of any animosity or disagreement. Mavis' court-appointed counsel, Ronald Ostrin, filed a report stating Mavis was in agreement with the conservatorship. Ostrin further endorsed and recommended the approval of Jay's petition to be the official conservator of her estate.

Mavis' neurologist, Dr. Hart Cohen, also supported the legal transition. He described Jay as "such a nice man" who treats Mavis "like gold." Court documents indicated his statement, as reported by People.

Ostrin also provided insight into Mavis' current mental health status, revealing that she "sometimes does not know her husband, Jay, nor her date of birth." He noted her "disorientation" and tendency to "ruminate about her parents who have both passed."
