U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has accused Fairfax County, Virginia, of disregarding a detainer request for a 30-year-old Honduran national, who has been charged with child sex crimes.

The individual was arrested at his residence in Bladensburg, Maryland, on April 15, following his release by Fairfax County on two separate occasions. ICE refrained from disclosing the man's identity in their statement.

ICE expressed concern over the man's alleged crimes, stating, "This Honduran noncitizen stands accused of some very serious crimes and represented a threat to the children of the Washington, D.C. area." The agency criticized local jurisdictions for their policies that prevent cooperation with ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), arguing that such policies endanger suspects, law enforcement officers, and community members.

The agency did not provide specific details about when or where the Honduran national first entered the U.S. However, they noted that he had been arrested and released multiple times on charges related to child sex crimes. FOX News Digital attempted to contact the Fairfax County Sheriff's Office for a response but received no immediate reply.

According to ICE, the Fairfax County Police Department first arrested the man on July 5, 2023, charging him with felony carnal knowledge of a child aged 13 to 14 years, without force. The following day, ICE's ERO issued an immigration detainer against the man. Despite this, the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center released him on a $10,000 bond on July 10, 2023, ignoring ERO's request.

In February, Fairfax County police arrested the man again, charging him with two additional counts of felony carnal knowledge of a child aged 13 to 14 years without force, and two counts of felony indecent liberties with a child under 15 years. The jail released him the same day, before ERO could file an immigration detainer.

During his arrest, ICE deportation officers served the man with a notice to appear before a Department of Justice immigration judge. The Honduran national will remain in ICE custody pending the outcome of his removal proceedings.
