In a move that has sparked considerable debate, Tennessee Republican Representative Andy Ogles introduced a bill on Wednesday aimed at expelling student visa holders who express support for Hamas, the Palestinian political organization.

The proposed legislation, dubbed the "Study Abroad Act," suggests that such students should "go study abroad in Gaza."

The Daily Caller, a conservative news outlet, obtained a copy of the proposed legislation. The bill stipulates that any student visa holder arrested for "rioting or unlawful protest" or for "establishing, participating in, or promoting an encampment" at a U.S. higher education institution will have their F, J, or M visas immediately revoked.

"The ability to receive higher education in the United States is truly a privilege," Ogles told The Daily Caller. He expressed concern that prestigious American universities are tarnishing their reputations by admitting students who sympathize with terrorist organizations. "In the last several weeks, our nation has seen these institutions overrun and terrorized by young people calling for a third intifada," Ogles said.

He further criticized the disruptive protests, describing them as "anti-Semitic, anti-America riots" that have caused chaos on campuses and led to the cancellation of commencements and in-person classes. "It’s time to send a clear message to foreign, Hamas-sympathizing students rioting: if you bring chaos to our universities, you can study abroad somewhere else. Might I recommend Iran, Qatar, or Gaza? They seem more your speed," Ogles added.

The bill has garnered support from other Republican representatives, including Jeff Duncan of South Carolina and Randy Weber of Texas. Weber echoed Ogles' sentiments, stating, "If you hate America so much, you should get the first ticket back to your country and attend college there. The unruly anti-Semites that are spewing hate and discontent on college campuses will not be tolerated in the United States."

Across the nation, college campuses have been grappling with escalating protests that disrupt classes and campus activities. Duncan emphasized the need to uphold the terms of student visas, stating, "If you come to America on a student visa and support a terrorist organization like Hamas, then you are in violation of your visa. We do not need Hamas sympathizers on American soil breaking our laws and influencing our youth to hate America and freedom. You riot on behalf of a terrorist organization, then say goodbye to your visa."

As this controversial bill continues to make headlines, it underscores the ongoing debate about free speech, national security, and the role of international students in American higher education.
