The famous quarterback, Tom Brady, continues to break the records, but not solely on the field. A rare Tom Brady rookie card has recently been sold for an unprecedented price of $2.25 million.

This significant sum emerged on Friday night during online sports auction house Lelands, which managed to break a record for the sale of a football card, that, notably, was previously also held by the NFL star.

One might remember that another of Brady’s rookie cards had been purchased last month by Fitbit CEO James Park for $1.32 million on PWCC Marketplace.

Mike Heffner, the President of Lelands, made a statement regarding the issue, saying:

“Tom Brady continues to shatter records both on and off the football field.”

The opening bid for the autographed 2000 Playoff Contenders Championship Rookie Ticket was of the value of $75,000 on the auction. An anonymous buyer walked off with the prize after 67 bids were recorded. Mike Heffner reported to the press:

“I wasn’t shocked (by the price), but I was certainly surprised. I know the market is headed upward, especially with rare and desirable cards such as that one, but I didn’t really anticipate it.”

The discussed Brady memento – The 2000 Playoff Contenders Championship Rookie Ticket card, which is autographed and numbered 99 out of 100, meaning that only 100 copies of that card were produced. The version that sold in March to Fitbit CEO James Park was graded as an 8 with the autograph graded a 10.

The card that was sold on Friday was graded as an 8.5 with a 9 on the autograph. According to the lot listing, it was purchased on eBay over ten years ago and stayed tucked away in a private collection before being offered up for auction.

Tom Brady is currently 43 years old, yet still playing remaining in surprisingly good shape. He began his professional football career with the New England Patriots, where he won six Super Bowls. During that time, he was infamously dragged into the “Deflategate” scandal, where it was alleged that he ordered the deflation of footballs used in the Patriots’ victory against the Indianapolis Colts in the 2014 American Football Conference Championship Game.

The famous quarterback then left the Patriots in 2020 in order to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with whom he earned his seventh Super Bowl win, when the team beat the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this year.

Going back to the card, now the same memento has eclipsed in value up to $2 million, since prices for rare and expensive sports cards and memorabilia continue to climb.
