DMX Freestyled About His IRS Problems Outside Manhattan Courthouse

Written by  Complex

On Monday, just a few days after he had been charged with 14 counts of tax evasion for allegedly failing to pay $1.7 million in taxes, DMX delivered an impromptu (?) freestyle verse mere moments after walking out of a Manhattan courthouse.

Alluding to his lawyer, Murray Richman, DMX (real name: Earl Simmons) professed his innocence in a pretty unorthodox manner, by rapping, "We don’t worry with Murray, he get you outta jail in a hurry. When the government trying to bury you, you good—early!"

According to Page Six, he doubled down on his confidence in his long-time lawyer: "With Murray on the case, we’re optimistic, that’s all I’m saying." The 46-year-old rapper described Richman as a father figure, which led to Richman joking that the surrogate role was "a bitch."

The most recent legal problems for DMX come after federal prosecutors allege the rapper initiated a number of schemes to avoid paying the seven-figure tax sum he reportedly owes. The schemes include depositing his paychecks into his managers' accounts so they could then pay him in cash, and providing false information on bankruptcy court documents.

According to a report from Saturday, DMX's $500,000 bail was posted. One of the stipulations of his release was that he couldn't travel outside of New York City unless approved by the court.
