What the lyrics to Justin Bieber's catchy 'Despacito' mean

Chances are the ultra-upbeat "Despacito" remix has been stuck in your head since the moment you first heard it — even if you don't speak Spanish.

The suave — and undeniably catchy — raggaeton single by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee that features Justin Bieber is the first song primarily in Spanish to top the American charts since 1996, and its quickly staking its claim as the song of the summer already.

But for those who don't know what the Puerto Rican pop stars and Bieber are singing about, we've got you covered.

"Despacito" simply translates to "slowly" — and that's essentially the entire theme of the song. The track talks about taking things slow with a romantic partner in a passionate, dreamy setting.

For example, the chorus describes a man wanting to slowly whisper into a lover's ear, slowly breathe onto her neck and slowly undress her.

These lyrics mirror the opening verse that Bieber recites in English, during which he sings, "Make me wanna savor every moment slowly, slowly."

"The way you nibble on my ear, the only words I wanna hear," he continues, "baby, take it slow so we can last long.
