Camila Cabello says she was sexualized too young in Fifth Harmony

Camila Cabello’s sudden departure from girl group Fifth Harmony seems to be about growing up too soon.

The 19-year-old singer split from the band just before Christmas and the four remaining members fought back, accusing Cabello of quitting without telling them in person.

Cabello, however, explained that she left Fifth Harmony because the girl group grew up too fast.

“Especially with being a girl group, there’s been a lot of times where people have tried to sexualize us to just get more attention,” she told Lena Dunham in December in an interview released this week. “Unfortunately, sex sells. There’s definitely been times where there’s stuff that I have not been comfortable with and I’ve had to put my foot down.”

Fifth Harmony was created during the second season of “X Factor” in 2012 when Cabello was just 15 years old.

And while she said there’s “nothing wrong with showing sexuality,” the “I Know What You Did Last Summer” singer said she felt she wasn’t ready to show off her assets that young.

“You have to grow into yourself,” Cabello told Dunham. “I feel like it’s been tricky because we’ve had to grow into ourselves while being in front of the world and while making songs that did have a lot of sexual undertones.
