A Secret Service officer, Michelle Herczeg, who was assigned to Vice President Kamala Harris' security detail and was involved in a physical altercation with her colleagues last week, has been described as mentally unstable and having "screws loose" by a former coworker from the Dallas Police Department, according to The Post.

Herczeg was temporarily relieved of her duties last Wednesday following an assault on a superior officer at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, where she was stationed in anticipation of Harris' departure. A former colleague from the Dallas Police Department expressed shock to The Post that Herczeg was chosen for the Vice President's detail, given her unsuitability for law enforcement roles.

The former colleague stated, "I wouldn't have allowed this person to supervise my dog, much less the Vice President… Somebody dropped the ball on this one."

In 2016, Herczeg sued the city of Dallas for $1 million, alleging she was targeted for being a female officer and treated less favorably after reporting sexual harassment and other instances of misconduct by police officers, as reported by the Dallas Morning News.

Herczeg's military service began in 1999 when she joined the Air Force. She served for nearly a decade, earning multiple service awards and leaving as a staff sergeant. The ex-colleague expressed bewilderment at her career trajectory, saying, "I would say this person and how she got in the military, how she got into the police department, how she got in the Secret Services, I don’t have a clue. I was at a loss for words when I heard she was an agent much less on a detail with somebody that high up."

The incident at Joint Base Andrews reportedly began when Herczeg started deleting apps from a male agent's personal cell phone, becoming increasingly agitated. According to RealClearPolitics, she was mumbling to herself, hiding behind curtains, and throwing menstrual pads and other items at another agent, telling her colleagues they were "going to burn in hell and needed to listen to God."

When her supervisor relieved her of the assignment, Herczeg responded with physical aggression, shoving, tackling, and punching him, as reported by the outlet.

When contacted for comment, Herczeg did not respond, and the Dallas Police Department referred the matter to the Secret Service. Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi stated, "The US Secret Service takes the health and safety of our employees very seriously. As this is a personnel matter, we are not in a position to disclose any further details."

He had previously commented on the incident, saying, "A US Secret Service special agent supporting the Vice President’s departure from Joint Base Andrews began displaying behavior their colleagues found distressing. The agent was removed from their assignment while medical personnel were summoned."

According to the former colleague, Herczeg's issues are deep-seated. They traced the onset of her erratic behavior back to a 2014 shooting incident at the Grand Hotel Dallas, where Herczeg and another colleague, Jay Jankowski, responded to a call about a stolen vehicle. The incident ended with the suspect, Terence Michael Groessel, shooting and killing himself. The former colleague said, "That was the impetus that kind of made people go ‘she ain’t right.'"

In her lawsuit against the Dallas police, Herczeg claimed she was barred from returning to a special crime reduction team and from taking overtime shifts after reporting an alleged assault, causing "stress and mental anguish from loss in payment compensation."

The former colleague revealed that Herczeg was reassigned to a small unit at the Dallas Police Department, where officers were warned to "watch your back, watch yourself" when working with her due to her litigious nature.

The colleague added, "When she got up there [to the new unit], the feelings just changed. Nobody would talk, people were afraid to say anything around her," and confessed that they couldn't wait for the "odd ball" Herczeg to leave the force.

Herczeg's lawsuit against Dallas was dismissed by a Texas court, and her subsequent appeal and request for a new hearing were both denied.
