Congressman to push bill that lets lawmakers carry guns

Written by  Marisa Schultz

WASHINGTON – A Republican congressman who survived the horrific baseball shooting will put forth legislation this week to allow lawmakers to carry guns throughout the nation’s capital.

“I’m going to be introducing legislation this week … to allow Congressmen to carry a sidearm, should they so desire,” Rep.

Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) told Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.”

Members of Congress are “high-profile targets, but we have absolutely no way to defend ourselves because of Washington, D.C.’s rather restrictive gun laws.”

Brooks said the legislation would allow members of Congress be armed in places throughout Washington where average citizens typically cannot carry guns.

“I want congressmen to be treated as if they were law enforcement,” Brooks said, “given that we are high-profile targets for the bad guys, the lone wolves, the terrorists.”

When liberal-activist gunman James Hodgkinson opened fire Wednesday on a group of GOP lawmakers practicing baseball, the attack would have been far more devastating if it weren’t for the two armed Capitol Police officers assigned to protect Rep. Steve Scalise, the House majority whip, according to witnesses.

Brooks said the gunman had a list of GOP targets in his pocket, including himself, and he’s concerned other deranged people may come after him.

Why are they letting a city keep a civil right from all people not just politicians? Anyone without a criminal record should have the right to carry a gun for protection and not just in DC for Congress persons who already have armed Guards. Any IDIOT knows that guns hurt no one unless it is I the hands of a HATER. The WACKO who shot Up the ball game HATED Republicans and had the police protection not been there it would have been another mass death shooting. Democrats are too WILLFULLY IGNORANT to accept their the TRUTH which is people kill people not guns or knives or any other item used by a killer to kill. Democrats love to blame anything but the person which is why outlaws are WORTHLESS like DEMOCRATS. See they blame the gun then they gut the laws they get passed so only the law abiding get hurt by the laws and Criminals get away with MURDER literally. So while I agree with the Congressman's thinking it should apply to all D.C. residents not just the already protected Congress persons. The 2nd Amendment should be up held every where not only where Intelligence is but even where LIBERAL IGNORANCE thrives like in DC and other cities where Democratshave conned the people into believing guns are the killer not the person using the gun.

I would expect congressional reps are US citizens and would have the God given right to carry a firearm like all citizens have. This incident is just another example why good guys with the ability to protect themselves and those around them is important especially now. Shall not be infringed.

If the Second Amendment is allowed to flourish EVERYWHERE in the country we would not have these situations where the only person with a gun is the bad guy. Imagine this fool starts shooting & a half dozen congressmen, well trained & well armed, return fire immediately!

Will the dems in DC support this bill to allow themselves to carry guns? Meanwhile their agenda seems to be to disarm all legal Americans. Will be interesting to see where this goes.

Instead of giving lawmakers the ability to carry in DC, why not get DC to drop their draconian laws and let all citizens have access to their God given right to protect themselves. The right that is supposed to be protected under the 2nd amendment, which DC refuses to acknowledge.
