Prince Philip Attends One of His Final Royal Engagements at Duke of Edinburgh Awards Ceremony

After seven decades of of public service, Prince Philip is wrapping up his royal duties.

On Thursday, Prince Philip attended the Duke of Edinburgh Awards ceremony in Scotland, an event that honors youth achievement, one of his last major events before his official retirement in the fall.

Buckingham Palace announced in May that the now 96-year-old Duke of Edinburgh would no longer be involved in public engagements after August of this year. Queen Elizabeth II was not in attendance at the award ceremony, but has been supportive of her husband's impending retirement. "In taking this decision, The Duke has the full support of the Queen," the statement from Buckingham Palace read. Her Majesty and Prince Philip have been married for 70 years.

The Prince was admitted to the hospital in June following the first day of the Royal Ascot, but was released a day later after treatment for "an infection arising from a pre-existing condition," according to a statement from the palace.

The Queen, who turned 91 in April, will continue her full slate of appearances.
