More Russian spies in US than anytime in ‘past 15 years’: report

Written by  Bob Fredericks

Russian spies have flooded the US to infiltrate government, businesses and other institutions as President Vladimir Putin has dramatically expanded intelligence operations on US soil, a new report said Monday.

“There are more Russian operatives, declared and undeclared, in the United States now than at any other time in the past fifteen years,” a senior US official told The New Yorker.

“They’re here in large numbers, actively trying to penetrate a whole host of sectors—government, industry, and academia.”

And the FBI does not have sufficient resources in the field to track down and identify the swarms of spooks, according to the stunning report.

The Bureau has “a math problem. It takes a lot of folks to run surveillance on one individual and make sure you never lose contact,” the official said.

The magazine said that two Russian operatives met with someone they believed was a White House mole to try to get inside information about how the Obama administration would respond to Russia’s interference in the US presidential election in favor of Donald Trump.

But the mole turned out to be an American counterintelligence asset, and the Russians left the sitdown empty handed.

Then, on Dec. 29, the Obama administration announced that 35 Russian diplomats linked to the meddling would be booted from the US.

But that effort affected just the tip of the Russian spy network’s iceberg.

“The number of folks who were sent home is a fraction of those who could have been sent home,” the officials said.

The White House expected Russia to retaliate, but Putin soon announced there would be no tit for tat.

And it was later revealed that then-presidential adviser Mike Flynn had hinted to the Russians that President Trump could ease the sanctions.

The imbalance between the Russian and US spy operations is compounded by Russia’s tougher stance on ferreting out CIA operatives on its soil.

“The Russians make it extremely difficult for American intelligence officers to operate in Russia, in a way that would be nearly impossible for the FBI to do the same here,” because constraints imposed by the US legal system, Steve Hall, a former CIA station chief in Moscow, told the magazine.

The Russian operation, he added, had not shrunk even though the Cold War had ended.

“It’s consistent to say that the resources and times and effort that it takes to run successful operations inside of Russia has not changed since Cold War times,” Hall said.

Last week, Putin retaliated against tough new sanctions imposed by Congress — which Trump reluctantly signed off on — by ordering that 755 embassy and consular staffers be expelled, further weakening the US presence in Moscow.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Sunday that the Trump administration would decide what retaliatory action to take against the Kremlin by the end of the month.

Tillerson said he shared that deadline with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov when they met that day in Manila.

The president has repeatedly called special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe of Russia and its possible ties to the Trump campaign a “hoax,” “fake news” and a “witch hunt” despite confirmed contacts between his top advisers and Russian officials and others connected to the Kremlin.

The US is more vulnerable both to spying and lobbying. The thaw ended with Micheal Flynn's removal. While the US-NATO-Sunni Axis* (aka the Washington Establishment)is back at the wheel. Russia is battening down it's hatches. US intelligence effectiveness will be further blunted.

But then, consider the upside. The US gave up on intelligence a long time ago when it began to write reports dictated by it's lobbyist pay masters. Status quo ante all round.

*Nixon, Kissinger and Yamani forged the US-NATO-Sunni Axis with Petro Dollars and which has directed global wars, economies, public opinion, terror and trade in contraband slaves, women, drugs, minerals, weapons and so on from the Oval Office ever since.

When will any of the persons who writes this BS to stir the pot ever get the facts as they are. Every country has spies in every other country under many disguises, anything from visitors to business persons with business interest here or the other countries, Julia Childs the food expert was a spy in WWII as were several other notable person from this country, in the 1970 the US had over 100,000 spies and agents in Venezuela to help in the overthrow of the Venezuelan Government right up to the Bush Administration, after the Bush fandango with a fail coup in Venezuela I just dropped it for other things that interested me more. These spies you talk about are in most cases persons with good connections and lots of money to impress persons with, look at the Russian group that was expelled about 10 years ago, Anna the red head was a highly respected realator and the other held jobs above reproach. I have yet to see anyone walking around with a sign on their neck saying spy, Those spy's also serve a useful purpose when they are identified, get fed false information to be fed back to their country to serve our purpose, if you check history you will find that spying goes back to as far as history goes. In ancient times the spy's were known to be fed false information about army movements just to gain an advantage.
Spy's could be anyone, depends on where their sympathies lie, the Rosenberg's wanted another big military to have Nuclear arms to hold the US in check so they gave the information to Russia, like they said at their trial they knew they would get caught and executed for it but they thought it necessary for the balance of power in the world.

"confirmed contacts between his top advisers and Russian officials and others connected to the Kremlin".
What do you imply by that?
There are contacts and contacts. EVERY high ranking politician or a big business owner meets with many foreign diplomats or representatives. After six months of congressional and anti-Trump groups' "investigation" there is still no evidence there was ANYTHING illegal.
But where are investigations of Clinton's Uranium-gate, Skolkovo-gate, Obama's promise of being "more flexible after his re-election" given to Medvedev with a mic on? And many other "deals" with Russians by Obama and his administration?
You're looking for traitors in the very wrong corner.

Let us for a second assume there are 10,000 Russian spies in the USA and the FBI and media are really concerned about them BUT they have no problem with Hundreds of Thousands of Muslim 'refugees' flooding the USA not a SINGLE one of whom can EVER be a LOYAL Citizen and each one of them Sharia compliant is a potential Mass Murderer!

These spies existed under Obama, they have NOT flooded the USA after Trump

As far as I know, not a single Russian has killed an American on US soil since 911 BUT only Muslims while glorifying their Satanic god called Allah

No wonder the USA is becoming a basket case of dysfunctional leaders
