President Trump should be ordered to unblock seven Twitter followers...

“It would send the First Amendment deep into uncharted waters” if US District Judge Naomi Buchwald intervened to make the president un-block people on the privately run social-media platform, according to a Friday Department of Justice filing.

“Such a novel holding would cast doubt on the ability of government officials to direct their communications to particular audiences.”

The seven complainants, represented by the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University, say they have suffered “irreparable injury to their First Amendment rights” because the President has blocked them on Twitter.

Trump should be forced to unblock the group — which includes a Texas cop and a New York City comic — while their lawsuit in Manhattan federal court proceeds, they said in court papers filed Tuesday.
