3, according to police department data. Baltimore, a city of less than 620,000, was already at 238 victims as of that date,” The Baltimore Sun reports.
New York’s murder rate is in a decline, while Baltimore’s is skyrocketing with over 300 homicides in 2015 and 2016, the report adds. New York City peaked at 500 murders each year in 2011, but continues to fall each year.
However, as The Sun also notes, “On a per-capita basis, the cities aren’t anywhere near each other. Baltimore saw 50 killings per 100,000 people in 2016. New York had 3.9 killings per 100,000.”
It would appear that the city hasn’t recovered since the riots over the death of Freddie Gray who died in police custody and became a rallying point for the Black Lives Matter movement. If that many lives are being senselessly snuffed out, then Baltimore doesn’t care about lives at all.
