President Trump will have dinner Wednesday evening with his new best Beltway pals — Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and his counterpart in the House, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, according to a new report.
“Chuck and Nancy,” as the president referred to them after cutting a deal for Hurricane Harvey aide and government spending, will join Trump at the White House for the sitdown, The Hill reported, citing sources.
Trump sides with Democrats to raise debt ceiling
The two top Congressional Dems will try to convince Trump to protect undocumented young people who were allowed to remain in the US under the Obama administration’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
Trump recently sent Attorney General Jeff Sessions, an immigration hard liner, out to announce that he was killing the DACA program.
But he also passed the political hot potato to lawmakers with orders that they had six months to fix the country’s immigration system.
And he also said he had great love in his heart for those protected by DACA.
Democrats hope to capitalize on what they see as an opportunity in the wake of his mixed signals and come up with a way to provide the “Dreamers” with a path to legal residency.
Trump stunned fellow Republicans by agreeing to Democrats short-term debt extension last week, with many saying they were furious over the move as well as his ongoing public criticism of GOP lawmakers.
It was unclear what the menu will include, though Trump is known to favor the meatloaf served up at the White House as well as well done steak with ketchup.
Schumer’s favorite sandwich — dubbed “The Schumwich” — is a gut busting mix of roast beef, banana peppers, pickled jalapeños, extra onions, extra tomatoes, two layers of pickles, mayonnaise and mustard on hearty Italian bread, as The Post once reported.
Pelosi, citing her northern Italian heritage, likes risotto and pesto, but also told Food and Wine magazine that she has been “eating dark chocolate ice cream for breakfast for as long as I can remember.”
