U.S. Navy Destroyer Fires Warning as Iranian Attack Boat Closes to 1,000 Yds

Written by  John Hayward

The latest in a string of provocative Iranian maritime actions occurred on Monday when the destroyer USS Mahan was obliged to alter course, fire warning flares, and man its own weapons due to the close approach of an Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps attack boat.

U.S. officials told Fox News the Iranian craft approached to within 1,100 yards from the Mahan at a “high rate of speed” and manned its weapons. The Navy ship was securely within international waters in the Arabian Gulf at the time.

CNN quotes an American official describing the Iranians’ conduct as “unprofessional but also provocative.”

Unlike a previous incident, the Mahan did not fire any warning shots. ABC News mentions that the Navy ship fired its warning flare “in the direction” of the IRGC ship, but that doesn’t quite count as a warning shot.

In January, four Iranian vessels approached the U.S. destroyer after ignoring its radio calls to stay clear and fired three warning shots at them with a .50 caliber machine gun.

“According to the U.S. military, Iran harassed U.S. Navy warships through “unprofessional” interactions at least 35 times in 2016, a jump of more than 50 percent from the previous year,” Fox News reports.

It seems that this country is always testing us, and it always seems that we are failing these "tests". I'm not for all of this "big talk", as it relates to what we "should do", it, would be so much better to say nothing.....and if that situation raises again, just blow there boat(s) out of the water.......remember, what they did last year, to two of our patrol boats and the crew's?. It must also be understood, that that country is working against us in EVERTHING that we are doing, in that part of the world, and also in other parts of the world, we have to be dealing with IRAN, from the Far East to just about any other place in this world. So, we have to deal with that bunch, then DEAL with them!

It's time to stop tip-toeing around and walking on eggshells with these pos throwbacks and blast them out of the water.

Might be time to sink one and get Iran's attention?

Iran captured two of our Seal attack boats that Obama took no action on. This should have been taken as an act of war and immediately fired to kill.

If we fire and hit them just once, they would stop harassing our ships. Right now they think we are just playing.

The Iranians must think that they are still playing tiddly-winks with O'Barry.

Introduce one of those little boats to Davy Jones locker and let the little crew discover that there are no virgins waiting for them ha ha Ha ha ha

The rules of engagement must be changed to permit C.O.s to take these boats under fire if they are deemed to be a danger. The only way to stop these attempts of provocative actions is to take a couple of them out of action. That is, no warning shots. Shoot to destroy.

The next such 'incident' AEGIS should be activated and the Iranian boat can be introduced to Mr.Vulcan Cannon. Iran is being rather stupid because an attack DD unit can hit 50 knots if necessary and these aren't old school DD units. they are state of the art vessels of war.

theire comes a time, when you should quit firing warning shots across their nose - and begin to fire up their nose.

What's a "warning shot"? Send them to Davy Jones' Locker.
