Why Vin Diesel Needed To Bring xXx Back Right Now

Written by  Cinemablend

Vin Diesel is an action hero known for distinctive and iconic characters. Over the course of his career, he has established himself with badasses like Dom Toretto, Riddick and Groot, but he's not finished carving out his silver screen legacy just yet.

As the title of the film pretty much suggests, xXx: The Return of Xander Cage has allowed him to once again embrace one of his most iconic characters by bringing the extreme sports aficionado/super spy back to the silver screen. What compelled Diesel to bring Xander Cage back after a 15-year absence? According to the actor at a recent xXx press conference in Los Angeles, there were many reasons, but the primary focus was to portray a more lighthearted character. Diesel explained:

I needed to do xXx for myself because I needed to play a character where I could laugh again and smile again and really really enjoy myself.

If you look back at the recent performances on Vin Diesel's resume, you will notice quite a few brooding characters. Xander Cage is a distinct departure from guys like Riddick and Dom Toretto because he's more fun-loving and far more willing to crack a joke in the face of danger.

Good for him. But the "franchise" needed a movie right after the first one.
I wanted one right after I walked out of the theater, but I was like 14-15... But I still stand behind that it was a great idea to do like an extreme-sports based action-flick about this guy turned into a special agent by lack of choice, basically, and it turned out to be one of the most awesome and intense action-flicks I've ever seen. It was perfect at the time and it should've been like the next Bond in terms of the over-the-top action like they did with Brosnan's Bond (which was already going downhill at that point, and the Craig-ones needed to happen a.s.a.p.).
It was great for action-flicks, and I kinda loved the character and the balance between seriousness and spectacle.

But I had stopped waiting for it after a few years, especially because they kinda screwed up with the sequel they made.
And what I'm seeing in the trailer for it is really stupid anyway. They're making it all goofy now instead of a more suspenseful thrill-ride... It's ACTUALLY over-the-top now, but just with loads more CGI-spectacle, and who knows how stupid the rest of the movie will be.
I just really liked the first for the high-octane action and the slight serious tone with the kind of cocky yet likable characters with attitude. - But this is 2016-2017 after all... -_-
