The ongoing border crisis in the United States under President Joe Biden's administration continues to escalate.

A U.S. Border Patrol agent was reportedly fired upon by armed individuals near El Paso, Texas in the San Elizario area on Thursday afternoon. The shots were allegedly fired from the Mexican side of the border, with the agent returning fire, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

As per an internal alert from the CBP, the armed individuals did not cross into U.S. territory.

The crux of the issue lies in the Federal Government's apparent reluctance to secure the border, a responsibility bestowed upon them by Article IV, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution.

In February, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas appeared on NBC's "Meet the Press." During the interview, he sidestepped all accountability for the border crisis.

When asked by Kristin Welker if he bore responsibility for the situation at the border, Mayorkas responded, "We don't bear responsibility for a broken system."
